Wonderful progress. Let's turn the scandal of untold hundreds of billions for foreign territories while we were opened for international predation and invasion into the triumph of the American military and people defending our land and deporting the tens of millions of people who came and reside here illegally.
Took a second look at my comment. I didn't blame Ukraine, and I didn't say it was solely for wars. Between, Ukraine, Israel, Europe, foreign aid, foreign bases ... ... it is untold sums.
It is a scandal that a country would spend such vast, you could say untold, sums on all manner of foreign matters but would not defend or enforce its own border. It was the Mayorkas regime. It has been a consensus for decades. That said, Ukraine is not of concern to us and the security of our homeland. It is an imperial project that people like George Friedman of, "The Next 100 Years", infamy and many others who pay him to, "predict", the future are vested in. Coincidentally, aside from wanting a war with Russia via Ukraine, he also advocated for paying masses of people from all over the world to invade America throughout the 2020s and into the 2030s.
You know what his great ending is to 100 years of American belligerence abroad and resettling vast numbers of aliens from around the world to keep "American" GDP growing is? Well, the US will have full spectrum dominance from space. The only problem is, the entire interior of the country between the Rockies will effectively be colonized by Mexico. By then, Mexico will be a major power with a vast, loyal population in, "America." Assuming you could call it America. A global war to gain total space dominance that requires forfeiting half of your continent and then have to try and win it back after paying to have it conquered peacefully. It is kind of like Musk's call to import Asia to defeat Asia.
Then, we will have to fight a major war with Mexico, that thanks to paying to import Latin America for decades to goose GDP for the empire, will effectively control the interior of the continent with a supremely loyal population. So, in short, destroy America to dominate the globe via total space dominance, but in the process forfeit half of your territory and face an existential threat with a neighboring power. These guys are such geniuses. These propositions are so absurd you couldn't make it up. But, Rand Corp and the GAE boys make it up and don't even bother to make it plausible enough to sell to an eight year old.
You should read it. Takes a couple hours. It is a real hoot. You also seem to have an affinity for Ukraine. That is great. The Ukrainians I know are fine people. My feeling on these matters is that if you think Ukraine is worth defending, you should go over there and defend her and leave Americans and America out of it. For my money, our issue is Mayorkas and Friedman and the imperialists who don't care about me or my country even though they run it.
> Took a second look at my comment. I didn't blame Ukraine, and I didn't say it was solely for wars. Between, Ukraine, Israel, Europe, foreign aid, foreign bases ... ... it is untold sums.
Total foreign aid rarely amounted to more than 1% of the federal budget (the average is closer to 0.5%, or ~0.1% of US GPD.) So, again, there was no fundamental reason why overseas aid would have excluded border security.
The behaviour of Mayorkas et al is irrelevant to my critique of the Trump administration. If your position is that Ukrainian welfare is not relevant to the United States, well... I'm not sure I agree, but in that case there's no point to Vance making trips to Europe to shore up alliance relations or inviting Conor McGregor to speak at the White House.
A while back Vance tweeted his response to a Ukrainian migrant that complained about Trump "abandoning his country", basically to say that this migrant's country was now the United States and he should have no other loyalties. Okay, fair enough. Is Vance going to tweet something pithy about how Irish-Americans' only loyalties should be to America and how dare Mr. McGregor try to tug their heartstrings with the misfortunes of some irrelevant pissant island across the Atlantic? Because I don't see why not.
For that matter, what exactly is the vital strategic interest that the United States has in South Africa? I know full well that the ANC and Julius Malema are playing a game of "pin the necklace on the Kulak", but why should America care? I don't like to rag on about Israel too much, because I'm also pretty sympathetic to their situation, but again, the Trump administration doesn't seem to see a problem with chucking a few billion in their direction.
What is the guiding principle here, exactly, other than flipping the bird to the Biden administration?
The guiding principle here is that the primary duty and purpose of a nation's government is to protect its people and defend its territory. The principle is the common sense principle that if a government, or any individual or group for that matter, can't or won't fulfill its first duty, then it should drop all other distractions until it can. It should do so and then work until it has undone the damage wrought from the long standing dereliction of its primary duty.
The GAE's imperial ambitions are a higher priority than doing its domestic duty. In fact, the reference to Friedman is to show that the GAE's imperial ambitions are not a cause of it neglecting its duty, but that the invasion and the dispossession of its founding nation is a purposeful undertaking done to serve and further its imperial ambitions.
The principle here is to say that is evil and it must stop. You appear sympathetic to Ukraine but not to the Irish or the Afrikaaners - both of whose plight is a direct result of the GAE's imperial ambitions being its priority.
The principle here is to look at the pattern of the GAE putting its imperial ambitions above the well being of its own people and the people of the nations and the lands from which its founding stock came. The point is to renounce that in favor of traditional and moral first principles.
My original post was not made with Ukraine in mind nor of having discourse on Ukraine. I will close by making an observation.
Ukraine is taking international volunteers and Europe has amongst its problems native populations that are unmotivated to fight for Ukraine when they have been abandoned by their own government at the behest of the GAE and its financial oligarchs. This is an opportunity for a brave and adventurous man, filled with conviction about the worth of the Ukrainian cause, to step into the breech, demonstrate the strength of his conviction, and help to defend Ukraine to the death.
> "The principle here is to say that is evil and it must stop. You appear sympathetic to Ukraine but not to the Irish or the Afrikaaners"
You seem oblivious to sarcasm, but more pertinently, completely failing to explain why the Trump administration should care about Ireland, South Africa, or Israel. The principle you invoke is obviously not what's genuinely being acted on.
> The principle here is to look at the pattern of the GAE putting its imperial ambitions above the well being of its own people
For the third time, the US government has ALWAYS spent around fifty times more money on the well-being of it's own people (even when you deduct spending on recent migrants) than it has on any foreign country, so this argument is horseshit.
> This is an opportunity for a brave and adventurous man, filled with conviction about the worth of the Ukrainian cause...
Okay, how many illegal aliens crossing the Rio Grande have you shot, personally? I assume that's how you spent the last four years, right? Enlisted with some vigilante militia group to do what your government refused to?
I'd also point out that European nations do make pretty significant commitments of troops and equipment to NATO, assets which they are currently NOT ALLOWED TO USE BY THE UNITED STATES, even though NATO was founded and organised BY THE UNITED STATES to contain Russian aggression. If the GAE isn't going to honour its own security commitments, they could at least take the cuffs off their allies.
You are now talking out of both sides of your mouth. The government is spending huge sums for, "its people", yet the only option I have to defend the border is to join a vigilante group. Now you let it slip. I appreciate that admission. This quantitative trick of citing aggregate numbers to prove that the government is doing good or to measure a net good worked for 80+ years, but nobody believes it anymore. They don't believe it because by every measure, their lives are worse off with each passing year.
You have a bugbear about Ukraine and are clearly an ardent supporter of the GAE. You entirely evade the subject of Ukraine as a satrap and stepping stone for imperial conquest. That is a classic and tired tactic of the imperialists.
You did an outstanding job of supporting the point of my initial point before this got sidetracked into lobbying for more money for Ukraine. The country sends vast sums to bolster a satrap who is a stepping stone to imperial conquest. The project backers lie and say they do it "protect", foreign peoples and uphold democracy - one they created by fomenting a coup. Then they suggest that Americans be reduced to a rag tag outgunned militia defending a vast border in the government's absence created by its pursuit of overseas conquest. Even better, the government isn't not guarding the border, it is inviting in and funding the invasion. It is transporting, housing and feeding the settler colonists. You propose that a militia take up arms against the government that isn't derelict in duty but actively using its might to resettle a new population throughout the country.
Every single aspect of the GAE and your advocacy of it is absurd. That was the point I was making in my first comment. You did a masterful job of making and underscoring it in your last comment, and, you did it far better than I ever did. Well done, and thank you.

Total US aid to Ukraine was less than 120 billion, and hardly 'untold'.

I'm glad the US is getting a proper border control policy, but Ukraine was not to blame for the lack of one.
