Maryland was instrumental in the formation of the American nation. The state’s 1st Maryland Regiment of 400 men held the line against a numerically superior British force as Washington and his army retreated from Long Island to Manhattan. It is because of the sacrifice of the Marylanders that the American nation was born.
Today, however, those Marylanders who fought for the independence of their nation and the freedom of their state would not recognize what it has become. Today nearly a million non-White immigrants call Maryland home and the White American/White Marylander share of the state’s population has already been reduced to the status of a minority in a state that their ancestors founded.
The current situation:
In the 1960s Maryland was in a strong demographic position. The state’s population was 83% White, making it the third Whitest state of the 8 South Atlantic States (and D.C). The demographics of the state held relatively strong in the face of both the Second Great Migration and internal migration to the new suburbs around DC, but this could not last in the face of changing immigration and demographic policies in both DC and Annapolis.
As a result of the 1965 Immigration Act, the Reagan Amnesty, and the urban renewal programs that targeted Maryland’s cities for “revitalization” the White share of the state’s population began a rapid decline.
As of 2020, just 43.2% of Maryland’s population is of European extraction while the populations of non-Whites have proliferated in recent decades.
In the 1970s the Hispanic population of Maryland was just 1.4%. This share increased to 4.3% by 2000 and by 2020 the Hispanic population constituted 12% of the state’s total demographic pie. Hispanics are now a 730,000-strong demographic in a state with a population of 6.1 million and are far from the only group that has seen a rapid rise.
Asians in Maryland have also experienced a meteoric population increase since the passage of the 1965 immigration act and the opening of America’s borders. In the 1970 census Asians constituted less than 1% of the Maryland population, but by 2020 that share had increased to 8.1%. Today more than 502,000 Asians live in Maryland, residing in sprawling suburbs which were once the farms and plantations of the White pioneers of the region.
And finally, there is a sizeable Black immigrant population in the state. Roughly 240,000 residents of Maryland are Black immigrants. These immigrants constitute 4% of the state’s population and comprise 11% of the total Black population of the state.
In total more than one million immigrants currently reside in Maryland, roughly 88% of whom are non-White. This immigrant population constitutes 16.7% of Maryland’s overall population and has grown 12% since just 2016, while the population of White Marylanders has stagnated.
And is it any wonder the immigrant population is growing so rapidly when the state government continues to offer incredible incentives? The Governor’s office runs and sponsors a series of “robust network organizations” that serve immigrant communities specifically, while the broader state government ensures the delivery of services to immigrant populations both legal and illegal. The state government runs a website facilitating immigrant access to not just healthcare, but to American taxpayer-funded programs such as Medicaid, and it walks immigrants through what to do if they do not qualify for services, even directing them toward “free, confidential help”.
Maryland is also among the 19 US states that provide driver’s licenses to illegal aliens. The state allows illegal aliens to practice medicine, and legislation has been introduced in recent years to expand most professional licensing to non-Americans, regardless of immigration status.
It is not just the expense or support offered to these immigrants, though. Recently a White mother of four living in Bel Air Maryland was subjected to a brutal rape-murder at the hands of an illegal alien from El Salvador. This illegal alien was admitted to the United States and released into the interior despite the fact he had committed a similar serious offense in his home country.

Policy Options:
But this does not mean that Maryland is without policy options. Whites in Maryland are still a highly politically competitive group. 47% of White men in the state voted for Trump in 2020, while overall 46% of Whites backed him that year. While this is not an endorsement of Trump, it does suggest that the White population of Maryland is very politically dynamic and may be open to solutions to reverse the demographic trends that are destroying the state.
Visa and Green Card cancellations:
Were the federal government to enact a widespread cancellation of visas, or even if the state government were to refer visa and Green Card holders to courts and the Department of Homeland Security for review, it would go a long way to reversing the demographic tide in the state.
Roughly 45% of Maryland’s immigrants are not naturalized U.S. citizens and removing them is as simple as canceling or refusing to renew their visas and green cards.
E-Verify and SAVE:
The State of Maryland could also require that all employers utilize the E-Verify system to ensure the legality of the state’s workforce and to lock illegals out of the labor force.
Additionally, the state government could mandate the use of the SAVE system for all local and state agencies. This system is the government equivalent of E-Verify and is used to ensure that illegal aliens and non-eligible legal aliens are unable to access the US welfare system.
These two measures, cancellation, and verification, could push roughly 480,000 immigrants out of the state. In addition, a further 106,000 children of illegals would likely depart with their family members, especially if the state of Maryland refuses to recognize the transfer of guardianship to legal residents.
Reviewing Family Reunification:
An additional policy option would be for the state to investigate cases of suspected immigration and naturalization fraud, both of which are widespread.
Some 70% of immigrants in the United States are admitted based on family ties, not for work or school.
This means that a large portion of people who have acquired US citizenship are likely to have done so fraudulently. The proof for this is best demonstrated by a 2008 investigation wherein the U.S. State Department discovered, through DNA testing, that over 80% of individuals admitted into the U.S. as family members of a “refugee” were not related to that individual.
The U.S. government has since mandated DNA testing for refugees who request their family members come to the U.S.
However, this DNA testing mandate has not been put in place for any other category of family reunification.
Simply by requiring proof that immigrants are related through marriage and birth certificates, and DNA testing, it is likely that a substantial portion of naturalized citizens in Pennsylvania, and in the U.S. as a whole, could have their citizenship revoked on the grounds of fraud.
Presuming that the fraud rate is only half of what it was in the famous refugee case, a rate of 40%, would denaturalize some 220,000 additional immigrants in Maryland. Up to an additional 302,000 children of immigrants could also be expected to depart with their denaturalized parents, bringing the share of total deportations and repatriations from the state up to 1.12 million people.
Conclusion:
The enactment of these policies could increase the White share of Maryland’s population to roughly 52%, reestablishing a White majority if only slightly.
This process of repatriation and deportation would also serve to start a national conversation about the repatriation of non-White citizens who wish to depart the country. Roughly 45% of non-Whites would leave the United States and resettle abroad if they had the resources (money) to do so, according to Monmouth University.
Policies of voluntary repatriation could see the White population of Maryland returned to near supermajority status of around 80%, and secure the state’s future for its founding White population.
