The Arab-Israeli conflict is back in full swing, as the soldiers of Hamas and the Israeli Defense Forces battle for control of the whole of Palestine. Hezbollah has joined in with occasional rocket fire, and Egypt has thus far maintained humanitarian corridors to the Gaza Strip. The ethno-religious conflict burns as hot as ever, but that is not the topic of today’s piece.
The United States maintains a special relationship with the so-called State of Israel, one which is unlike its relationship with any other state. For sure, the US has other questionable allies. The Saudis are known to chop off hands, the UAE is engaged in a protracted conflict in Yemen which is starving hundreds of thousands of children, the Turks occupy a large portion of the ethnically Greek island of Cypress, and Tunisia is allowing hundreds of thousands of Africans to flow through its territory and onto Europe, despite a recently penned deal.
But none of these relationships hold a torch to the extremely unique alliance between the United States and the so-called State of Israel.
Many people in nationalist circles are already aware of the central narrative: that a strong Israeli lobby its representation are at the core of American political and media life has led the United States into an, at times hysterical, devotion to the State of Israel. A particularly strong example is when Henry Kissinger defied direct instructions from President Nixon, and rather than representing American interests in a meeting with Soviet Officials, the US’ Jewish Secretary of State represented what he believed to be the interests of Israel.
Ethnically Jewish government officials so avidly sided with Israel in policy-making discussions that Nixon was eventually forced to order that no Jewish member of his government, including his own Secretary of State, be allowed to sit in on meetings where Israel would be discussed.
Nixon’s attempts to halt pro-Israeli influence over the US government failed, of course, and the United States has been engaged in an 80+ year affair with the so-called State of Israel. An affair which is decidedly not to the benefit of the American people.
All of these points are reinforced by the groundbreaking work: “The Israel Lobby and US Foreign Policy” by John J. Mearsheimer and Stephen M. Walt. A mainstream book we highly recommend as an introduction to the influence of the Israel lobby and politicians.
Between 1943 and 2023 the United States government provided the so-called State of Israel with 160 billion dollars in aid. If this figure is adjusted for inflation then the total amount of money US taxpayers have directly budgeted for Israel increases to an incredible 260 billion dollars.
Additionally, the US government regularly extends loan guarantees worth billions of dollars to the Israeli government. If Israel is ever unable to pay its debts, such as during a major conflict, it is the American taxpayer who will pick up the bill.
American tax dollars have gone to far more than just weapons. American money has built Israeli homes, subsidized housing for families, paid for the extensive Israeli public transportation system, and has been used to construct illegal Israeli settlements in the occupied West Bank.
In the same year, in 1992, when George H. W. Bush signed a bill authorizing over 12 billion dollars of support for Israel, he also signed legislation that permitted the massive destruction/removal of American transportation infrastructure. In particular, the legislation allowed for American railway lines to be torn up and ‘converted’. In many cases, they were simply abandoned to rot.
The United States use to have one of the most extensive, highly utilized, and robust passenger railway networks in the entire world. And while Israel is not solely, or even largely, responsible for the decline in US passenger rail, it is remarkable that American governments are willing to fund public transportation projects in a foreign country half a world away, rather than ensure that vital services remain available to Americans.
Americans should ask themselves why their political class denies them world-class infrastructure and services (often declaring them to be socialist) while simultaneously spending untold billions to fund these services in Israel.
The support of the American state goes well beyond rail, however. Other pieces of critical Israeli logistical infrastructure are backed up by the American government.
The US maintains an agreement with the so-called State of Israel which obligates the United States to maintain strategic reserves of oil for Israel. If Israel is ever unable to procure oil on the market the United States will sell oil to Israel at a discounted rate.
It does not matter how high prices get for Americans, nor if the American economy is struggling. The United States is obligated by treaty to ensure that oil keeps flowing to Israel for a period of 5 years upon activation of the agreement. And Israel can activate the agreement unilaterally.
Perhaps most egregious is that the American state uses its vast financial resources to ensure that Israel remains a majority-Jewish entity while the founding stock of the United States has entered serious demographic, social, and economic decline.
The US government has given nearly 600 million dollars to the Jewish Agency to ensure that the ability of poor and otherwise disadvantaged Jews to resettle within the borders of the Zionist project is not hindered.
Senator Chuck Schumer, the President, Joe Biden, and various other American politicians decry any attempt by Americans to ensure their demographic security within the borders of the nation they founded. Yet, these same politicians are more than willing to ensure that copious financial and logistical resources are available to maintain the demographic integrity of the Jewish entity in Palestine.
Aside from the Israel lobby and its powerful political class ensuring that American fiscal resources and treasure are diverted to Israel, the Israeli state itself also undermines the national security of the United States.
Israel has been caught, on more than one occasion, selling American defense technology and secrets to the Chinese. The Israeli government has a long history of making unauthorized, and often illegal, transfers of US arms and technology to foreign states. This has resulted, on more than one occasion, in huge costs for the American taxpayer as defense technologies have to be reworked or shored up against possible incursions as a result of the Israeli undermining of American national security.
The Israeli government has been caught:
Placing spy devices near the White House
Planting spyware on the devices of American government officials
Carrying out massive economic espionage on American firms
And is believed to have stolen bomb-grade uranium from the United States
In addition to these questionable acts and crime, the Israeli government also harbors known criminals who face prosecution in the United States and is one of the foremost global centers of online and cash fraud.
Israeli behavior is appalling, and the American nation gains nothing by having the so-called State of Israel as an ally.
