Director's Note: Repatriation and Remigration need not be a one-sided effort shouldered by Western Nations. Countries such as Ghana, Guyana, and Syria are eager to welcome their diaspora populations back home. In our first installment of Beyond the West, a Nigerian PhD student called for fellow Nigerians to return home.
Inspired by the same cooperative spirit and following the Christmas Twitter H1B debate carefully, this Indian reader and tech worker (in India!) wrote to us to offer his fresh perspective for how India could benefit from H1B restrictions in the US by retaining its much needed talent.
By: Delhi Delegate
I was intrigued by the recent Twitter engagement between Elon Musk, Vivek Ramaswamy, and the American patriotic movement over the issue of Indian H-1B visa workers. It was simple enough to agree with the Americans even though I am myself an Indian. The reason I can find myself in agreement with those American patriots is because I am a patriot for my own country; and just as Americans do not like seeing Indians take their jobs and fill important roles, I do not like seeing the left-wing radicals in the Western governments taking Indians from my country. India needs its engineering talent, but the promises of Western companies and governments entice them to leave and resettle in the West.
Because of this state of affairs the past few decades have been defined by a significant number of Indian professionals, most notably in fields such as information technology, engineering, medicine, and academia, have migrated to the West to go after better jobs. This has been good for the bank accounts of Indian emigrants but has resulted in a steady “brain drain” from India that is by all measures hampering our ability to grow the domestic economy.
As an Indian nationalist and patriot for our Hindu state I do not want to see our talent and creative potential drained away to the West. I also do not like that this massive immigration is beginning to cause resentment against Indians by the Western public because of what our rulers are doing. Therefore I believe a compelling case can be made that if Western countries were to stop the welcoming of Indian immigrants and begin returning them to India everyone would benefit. India could retain its top talent and the men who run huge Fortune 500 companies in America could put their talents to work in India while Americans can return to running American enterprises. For these reasons I think Western patriots and real Indian patriots have a great amount in common.
If we are going to put true efforts into defeating the rising Chinese civilization and prevent it from dominating the world we need a strong India and a strong West.
The Domestic Case for India
Organizations from Western mainstream media to India’s own academia class recognize that there is a brain drain happening in India. This the world’s largest democracy is producing vast amounts of engineering and technological talent that is quickly being moved to the open borders Western world. Indians will use the excuse of poor job growth and low remunerations as an excuse for leaving the homeland but that is just what this is, an excuse. Indians are talented and if they are capable of running the American Google or the British Unilever we are capable of creating such companies in India. Unilever employs 127,000 people and Google 182,000 individuals. Indians could build such companies in India.
But what must happen is that Indians must have no choice but to do this. The West must stop importing Indian talent and Indian rulers like our Foreign Minister S. Jaishankar must stop pushing Indians to go abroad for work. Our political class must stop making excuses and instead reform the Indian economy so that large firms can build as is argued by the Foundation for Economic Freedom by Alex Tabarrok.
It is here we also see the collusion by Indian and Western elites. India’s rulers want to export labor they cannot provide jobs for while Western political classes want to import labor to undermine Western society and jobs.
What we must do instead is stop the migration and the push to migrate. Indians must have no choice but to reform India to build these opportunities. Western companies must have no choice but to hire native Western men for their talents.
Indian professionals who currently migrate to countries like the United States, Canada, and the United Kingdom often contribute to the development of cutting-edge technologies, academic research, and businesses in those countries. This is talent India is in much need of receiving in here, but they will not return unless the Western people insist that Indians return to India.
The West Must Be Strong
The White Papers Policy Institute is very correct when it insists that the West must begin a government policy to remigrate non-Western people to their country of origin. There are more than 5.1 million Indians in the United States and 2 million in the United Kingdom to use but two examples. Because the Indian government is not likely to reverse its pro-emigration stance with any great speed, it is a necessity that Western nationalists do this instead. By telling the minority populations that it is time to leave the West could force positive policy change in India and spark the necessary domestic changes that this country is needs.
India will complain of course and people will be upset that the tens of billions of dollars in remittances from the West are no longer being sent into the Indian economy, but this is necessary. India cannot survive on remittances, and Western people should not have their economies drained because of domestic Indian policy failures! Instead, the West must insist that Indians return home in some structured manner, and this will give India time to prepare for an end to the remittances.
There are also Western security concerns. Indians have been arrested for spying on American companies and the American government and an Indian man even attempted to sale American aerospace technology to the Russian Federation. These incidents do not make for cordial relations between the Hindu state and the Western world, relations that I do not want to see strained by these unnecessary incidents.
The nationalists of the West will have to weather the protestations of India, but know that it is for the good of both countries.
We Want to Defeat China Too
Despite Indian spying we, much like the Western civilization, are also at odds with China and competing for regional dominance. Chinese spies operate across India just as they do in the Western world and for similar reasons. Our research and development sectors have been exposed to China’s rapid growth, their “students“ abroad, and their intelligence agencies and Communist spy networks.
Part of this failing is because of the brain drain to the West. India requires this top talent not only for our private sector but also for our own government and military. If India is to attain true strategic autonomy and stop the advance of China into the Indian Ocean and its march across Africa we must keep our impressive domestic talent at home. In this way a strong India can act as a barrier against China’s westward advance and take pressure of off the Western world, in particular the Americans who seem very tired of being the global police force. A strong India can shoulder this burden, but not with the liberal Western politicians draining our talent.
It is patriots and nationalists in our two civilizations that understand what a real cooperation would look like, and this cooperation does not involve mass migrations.
The Suggested Steps:
I believe that India and the West must take these steps to begin to correct our relationship and work to benefit both civilizations:
The West must stop accepting Indian immigrants.
The West must tell Indian immigrants it is time to leave and create a time-frame for this.
Western companies must accept they have to pay Western men fair wages.
India must stop promoting immigration abroad to its own citizens.
Indian politicians must take responsibility and reform policies in India.
India must find a way to live without remittances.
Both civilizations must work together to counter rising Chinese influence and maintain our security.
In Summary
Indians have gained a lot of experience, talent, and indeed money from going to work abroad, but this has come at a significant cost factor to the domestic Indian economy. This foreign migration has also undermined the Western job market and demographic composition. It is time to reverse this process for the good of both the Hindu state and the Western countries.
We can work together to end and reverse the migration flows and strengthen India and the West, but only when patriotic people are willing to work together in mutual understanding.
